about the ICOM F50V and the original F50?  As you may know the F50 was the first micro-sized radio with built in paging and true water submersible capability.  It has been the standard for talk-back pagers for over half a decade, but even the best products can be improved.

There are four major improvements of significant interest.  The first is audio.  The typical pager has  250 milliwatts of audio.  The typical handheld radio has 500 milliwatts.  The new F50V has 700 milliwatts of audio!  This is accomplished by new technology known as a Bridge Tied Load or BTL amplifier.  You can HEAR the difference!

Most handheld 2-way radios with built in paging capability use audible tone alerting to alert the user of an incoming call.  This is great of outdoor use or awakening a sleeping first responder.  However, and audible alert tone by be very disruptive in church, restaurants, or theaters.  The new F50 has selectable audible or vibrate alert.  This is a HUGE benefit!

One of the key benefits of the Minitor V pager is an optional feature commonly referred to as a voice recorder.  With this option, incoming call are recorded and can be played back when the user doesn't understand the message, or when taking calls in private while the pager is in the vibrate mode.  The new F50 has up to 8 minutes of recording and playback time and it's not optional - It's STANDARD!

The fourth new feature is the addition of MDC-1200 signaling.  For many years, this was a premium feature found only in top of the line Motorola radios.  Now it is available in the F50V.  One of the more useful functions of MDC-1200 is to provide an ID code from a transmitting unit.  This ID code can be displayed on other F50V's other radios with MDC-1200 display or dispatch centers with MDC-1200 display capability.  There are a number of other features including the ability to disable a stolen or lost radio and much, much more.  The point is, this is FANTASTIC FEATURE rarely found in radios comparable to the F50's low, low cost.
