The RPV516 and RPU416 series radios were not designed to be the cheapest radio available. These radios were designed to be the combination pager/radios available to meet the exacting needs of first responders, both paid and volunteer at a reasonable price. You can buy a less expensive radio, but you won't find another radio from another manufacturer at anywhere near the cost, with anywhere near the features available in the RPV516 and RPU416 Series. After all, these radios were designed to serve you until 2011 (the proposed mandatory compliance date for implementation of 12.5 kHz channel spacing). Here is an overview of what you get.
