Base stations.......

come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges.  The function of a base station is generally to communicate from a fixed point with an AC powered radio to mobile and/or handheld personal 2-way radios and in some cases to provide interoperability between VHF and UHF radio systems.

Base stations are available in power ratings of 2 to 5 watts in the for building or campus use.   Higher powered base stations rated at 10, 25, 50, or 100 watts are used for wide area coverage and are available for both VHF and UHF use.

A common misconception is that a high powered base station will somehow increase the talkback range of handheld radios.  As you review the material we have prepared, you will learn the real story!

There are many factors contributing to how a base station performs.  The links at the left will provide additional information.
