The problem is with P25 is that it is a little pricey for small users and the 6.25 kHz version is not yet available. MotoTRBO is a nice system. The only problem is that the repeater stations cannot handle both analog and digital radios. That could be a real problem for a user planning to phase out older radios with new digital radios as budget permits. There is also an issue with an inability to send or receive 2-tone paging which is the standard signaling system for Fire and EMS users.
IDAS does it all with MDC1200 compatibility in the analog mode, full digital capabilities, 25, 12.5 or 6.25 kHz operation and a repeater station that can operate in the digital mode while simultaneously allowing analog use for older radios. The price is comparable to MotoTRBO, and considerably less than P25.
If you operate an existing VHF or UHF radio repeater in Alabama, we will replace your existing station with a new IDAS station at no cost on four conditions. One, you must be properly licensed by the FCC. Two, we will use your existing antenna system, amplifier (if applicable) and duplexer.
