Happy 2008! To say the least, 2007 was an interesting year, and like all years, a time of sorrow and a time of joy, a time of trials, and a time of conquering, a time of ending, and a time of beginning.  What we did or didn't do in 2007 cannot be changed.  What we do in 2008 is a matter of choice.  We wish you the blessing of making right choices, at the right time, for the right reason.  There is nothing greater that we could wish for those we serve.  We wish each and every one all the best for 2008 and we look forward to being a part of your choices in this new year.  For our older readers, we have a special message in the For curious minds only section of this Newsletter and for our younger readers, we have an excerpt from that message as the closing quote at the end of this Newsletter.  Don't know who wrote it, but there is a message there for everyone!

A word about grants  -  The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grants can generate significant funding for even small communities such as Greenville, Alabama who just won a $250,000 grant for mobile data terminals.  Other winners in Alabama include Athens, Auburn, Baldwin County, Calera, Dothan, Foley, Gadsden, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the Luverne Police Department.  Congratulations to all of you!  Historically the grant application period closes by the end of June.  We anticipate no changes in 2008.  If you are involved in law enforcement and not taking advantage of the opportunities available for funding, we encourage you to visit www.cops.usdoj.gov for more information.
