Greetings!

As many of our readers know, our focus is primarily in serving the needs of those who serve others which includes not only fire & rescue and law enforcement, but education, and health care as well.

What many do not know is that we also have a strong commitment to serving the needs of industrial users as well as the personal communications sector. This month, we will share some information that is a departure from our traditional topics. Hope you find it to be of interest!

The mother of digital radio!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eva Maria Kiesler
We thought it was time to liven up our Newsletter with a pretty face. This one belongs to now departed Eva Maria Kiesler, an actress inventor who gave us what we know today as digital communications! Yep, that's right! She did it during WWII. The technology is known today as Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum or FHSS.
This amazing lady, who just happened to be one of the top female movie stars during the 40's and 50's was also the inventor of a highly classified torpedo guidance system. Her technology was so advanced that is was classified as Secret by the U.S. Government for over half a century! You may know her better by her stage name which is.......
The story of Big Red!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Big Red
Big Red, as pictured here, had a problem. His owner had a mobile type radio mounted in the engineers cab for communicating with on-site personnel equipped with personal 2-way radios.

The problem was that the engineer couldn't hear anything over the noise of the locomotive. Then along comes Falcon!

A comment on Fire Grants
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fire sceneThis year, we note a declining interest in the Fire Protection and Safety (FP&S) program, partly because of some misconceptions as to what could be done, the funding available, and pent up anger in the inefficiencies of government in general.
At one county fire association meeting, I noted a level of anger and frustration by many of the attendees that reflected the feelings of many whom we serve. In essence, what I was hearing was I had rather be poor and proud than endowed and indebted. This represents a quantum shift in the thinking of many who have benefited from government sponsored assistance programs. It could be a return to common sense!
Speaking of common sense.......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alabama DHS
On February 22, 2011, the Alabama Department of Homeland Security made the startling announced that a planned 700 MHz statewide communications system would be delayed indefinitely.

This could represent a return to common sense and the end of mindless spending on programs that are neither needed or affordable.

The fact is that we don't need a nation wide public safety communications network. What we need is a simple and affordable local communications network for local area mutual aid activities. We already have regional and national communications capability.

Which FirePager is right for you?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many people think the Minitor V is the only choice for a top quality FirePager. At one time, we would have agreed. Not now! Now, there is a better alternative. It's called a WatchDog!
Never heard of a WatchDog? Concerned about where it's made? Unlike Minitor V ,which is made in China by Unication Co. Ltd., the WatchDog is MADE IN THE USA! So, if you can purchase a US made pager with more features, lower cost of operation, and less initial cost, why wouldn't you do that?
MURS Radio Alternative!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MURS Alternative
The BEST radio for personal use, as well as for many commercial, institutional, and even governmental uses is the TXS300 discussed previously.

For personal wireless communications, many users don't want to be restricted to a private communications system. For these folks, there is GMRS, and MURS.

We offer a VERY inexpensive MURS radio, as well as GMRS which is a subject for another day. If you are looking for an inexpensive business radio, MURS is NOT for you!

You may have noticed that we have offered something for just about everyone this month EXCEPT our law enforcement friends. Fear not friends in brown and blue, you have NOT been forgotten. We were just holding our comments for you till last since we have a very special message just for YOU!

Federal funding to law enforcement agencies has been very small in comparison to fire departments. That's a fact! In the typical rural county, the sheriff and police departments are using communications equipment that is up to thirty years of age, or older. That's a problem. The good news is that we know how to fix it!

We would welcome the opportunity to help you. All you have to do is give us a call at 205.854.2611 or drop us an email to AtYourService@falcondirect.com. That's our job - serving you!
