Repeaters....... come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. The function of a repeater is generally to extend range between mobiles and/or handheld radios or in some cases to link different radio systems such as VHF to UHF. We use on-site repeaters, generally rated at 2 to 5 watts in the UHF band, for building or campus use. Higher powered repeaters rated at 10, 25, 50, or 100 watts are used for wide area coverage and are available for both VHF and UHF use. A common misconception is that a high powered repeater will somehow increase the talkback range of handheld radios. As you review the material we have prepared, you will learn the real story! There are many factors contributing to how a repeater performs. The links at the left will provide additional information. |
