AN INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL

There are a number of reasons why many users are switching to digital. The main reason is it works better! Think of the old analog cell phones of the 80's versus the digital cell phones of today. Take a look at HD TV or listen to HD radio for other examples. FCC requirements for narrow banding degrade performance on analog radios but have no little effect on digital radios.

The first digital 2-way radios were VERY expensive! Now, they are only a little more than analog versions. In the near future, they will cost less. Digital radios can handle voice, text, and GPS in the same manner. This means you get more features for less. Back when your home telephone was connected to an analog switch, you had to pay a lot for features like Caller ID. Now, enhanced features are available for little or no cost through the use of digital telephone central office systems.

We could go on, but you should have the picture by now. The future (the IMMEDIATE future that is) is going to be digital. All of the radios listed below are digital, yet have the ability to still communicate on older analog systems (with the exception of the DTR650 which we offer with an optional converter that allows migrating from old analog systems to digital). FCC Licensing

VHF systems can be operated without a license on five available VHF frequencies. All of our UHF, 700 and 800 MHz and all commercial and governmental use of VHF frequencies radios requires an FCC license. The Motorola DTR Series digital radios operates in the 900 MHz ISM band with no license required. If you are in doubt about whether or not you require an FCC license call us!
